Explore Minca

What it’s like

The river running past the village has pools for a cool-off without going far. Hostelworld puts the house a few steps away.

Minca lives alongside its river: clear, cold water coming down from the Sierra. Some lodgings call it the Río Gaira, others just the Minca river. Pozo Azul sits upstream on the same main channel.

According to Casa Bosco’s Hostelworld description, the house is a few steps from the river. For a quick dip you do not need an excursion: wander down, find a calm pool and you are set. Ask in the village which spots locals use and which banks are private land.

It is the plan for a hot midday or the afternoon after a hike: feet in the water, a book on a rock, then back to the hammock.

Casa Bosco doesn’t sell or run this visit: go on your own or with a local guide.

Before you go

Getting there

  1. Walk from the house; ask at reception or in the village for the nearest access.

What to bring

  • Towel
  • Water sandals
  • A bag for your rubbish

Field tips

  • Check the colour: if it runs brown, try another day.
  • Water sandals help on the rocks.

Heads-up

  • After rain higher up, the river can rise fast even if it is dry in the village.
  • Do not swim at night, or alone when the water is high.

Travel lightly

  • Whatever goes in here flows down to the coast: the Río Gaira, together with the Manzanares, feeds Santa Marta’s water supply. No soap, shampoo or sunscreen in the water.
