Finca La Victoria

Sierra coffee, a historic mill and a cup at the source

Plate 03 Finca La Victoria

Explore Minca

What it’s like

A coffee estate founded in 1892, with guided tours of its traditional mill, a bistro and organic high-grown coffee.

La Victoria has been growing coffee on the Sierra slopes above Minca since 1892. Its pride is the traditional mill: historic equipment for pulping, washing with mountain water, drying in guardiola drums and roasting.

The coffee tour, per the official site, runs 50 minutes in Spanish, English or German and includes two cups. You go from the nurseries — they plant around 50,000 new coffee plants a year — all the way to the cup. Groups over 10 need to book.

There is also a bistro and café serving coffee, chocolate, craft beer and dishes built on local produce, plus a birdwatching tour by advance booking only. The farm spans roughly 800 to over 2,000 m, so the scenery shifts as you go.

Mind the distance: it is not in the village. One guide quotes 2.5 hours on foot or 45 minutes by motorbike; another calls it a 30–60 minute hike. Plan for a long half day and ask in Minca about road conditions.

Casa Bosco doesn’t sell or run this visit: go on your own or with a local guide.

Before you go

Getting there

  1. By mototaxi from Minca up the unpaved road (about 45 min according to one guide).
  2. On foot if you want the climb to be part of the day; ask about the route and trail conditions first.

What to bring

  • Comfortable shoes
  • Light rain jacket
  • Cash or other payment (check with the farm)
  • Room in your bag for a bag of coffee

Field tips

  • Go in the morning, when the machinery is running.
  • October to January is peak harvest, so there is more going on in the mill and drying patios.
  • Groups of more than 10 should book through the farm’s own channels.

Heads-up

  • The road up is unpaved and gets rough in the rain; in the wet season, motorbike or 4×4 is the way.

Travel lightly

  • Buy your coffee at the farm itself, so the money stays in the Sierra.
